Thailand Patong Beach

South Patong Beach

South Patong Beach During the Day
Patong Beach In The Afternoon
This my most favorite beach in the world.  I’ve been going here since the 90’s. It’s my escape spot and familiar spot when traveling.  If you have never been, make it part of your must see do destination spots.  Since I knew Patong before the Tsunami, I can say without reservation it is 10,000% more than before.  Over the past decades, there have been new developments that offer even more options for places to stay as well as things to do. From Jungceylon,  to the HardRock CafĂ©, to the La Flora, this beach is where you can see do and experience it all.  Relax your days under beachfront coconut trees, or sunbath until the sunsets; but do get a massage on the beach. Yes, I said a massage on the beach. You will melt to sleep. No matter what section of the beach you choose to crash on, each section offers chairs, beach towels, food and refreshments. Locals also walk the beach selling souvenirs, goodies, and even ice cream. One of my favorite things to drink while soaking in all that this beach offers is a fresh lemon smoothie. Food wise, it has to be green mango or papaya salad.  Yum!

You can also rent a private boat and a guide to go out and explore any of the smaller islands. Perhaps you’re more into snorkeling, diving, wanting to check out James Bond Island, or explore Maya Beach. Those and other fine activities can be easily arranged right on the beach or through your resort too. There are also many street kiosks that can charter any type of activity, including jungle tours with elephant rides.

If you’re a foodie like me, then you are going to go bananas here. You can enjoy everything from Thai to Persian and almost everything else in between. I walk Thawewong Road and Thanon Ratuthit Songripi Road to find out about new restaurants. You should too because food is everywhere, and fresh seafood is in abundance. Want to eat like a local? Then partake of anyone of the many food carts here.  Behind Jungceylon, there is a terrific outdoor food court to eat at. Locals as well as tourists eat there.  The food is cooked fresh, and served up hot. No two food carts offering the same fare will taste the same. That is what is amazing about Thai food.   More of a 5 star dining connoisseur, you are covered too.  Patong has food done right.

At night, the lazy streets during the day transform. Patong does not rest. Explore and take in the sights on Bangla. See a Muay Thai Boxing event. Disco until sunrise, go shopping, or enjoy live music while dancing on the beach. One thing though, be sure to enjoy a fresh crepe. OMG, they are over the top delicious. My favorite is banana and coconut drizzled with condensed sweet milk.  It tastes like heaven.

South Patong (pronounced pa tong) sits at the mouth of the Andaman Sea.  Turquoise waters lap up onto the antique white sandy beach and the best is that the sea is the same temperature as the air anytime of the day. See you there!
